Something on my Christmas list this year was an item out of the ordinary. It wasn’t a phone, clothes, or whatever else teens these days want. I asked for an air fryer. I know what you are thinking. That is such a weird thing to ask for! But, since I have had it, I haven’t regretted asking for it.

Now, what exactly is an air fryer? Well, an air fryer is basically just like a regular deep fryer, however it doesn’t use any oil. The air fryer just uses air at very high speeds to fry the food, which, compared to regularly fried foods, contains 90% less fat.

When I took the air fryer out of the box, i thought it looked like a Dragon Ball Z spaceship of some sort. It just looked so weird and it certainly looked out of placed in the kitchen in the bright white color my mother had picked out. Although the appearance totally put me off from wanting to cook anything in it, I still was super excited so I took to it anyways.

The first ever recipe I made in it was one of my staples, buffalo cauliflower. This recipe is pretty simple and can be made fried or baked. I cut up the florets of cauliflower into bite-sized pieces and double battered them in buffalo sauce then panko breadcrumbs. After doing that process, I unhooked the main compartment from the air fryer, placed the pieces in, then hooked the compartment back on.

The settings on the air fryer are similar to that of a oven. First, the unit plugs in to a wall. Then, it has a time setting and a fahrenheit temperature gauge. The temperature I set it to for the buffalo cauliflower was 360 degrees for 10 minutes.

It doesn’t take long at all for the final product to come out and there is a buzzer that goes off that alerts you that the food is done. You do have to be careful though when you are removing your food because the inside chamber of the compartment does get very hot.

When I got the food out and onto plate, I was absolutely amazed with the result. The glaze of the buffalo sauce shined through the crispy coating of the panko crumbs. They looked just delectable.

When I finally got to try the bites, I was so surprised. Normally, when I make them in the oven, they aren’t as flavorful and when I make them in a deep fryer, they contain a lot of oil. Making this recipe in the air fryer somehow managed to perfect the recipe. The high speed of the air managed to knock most of the moisture out of the cauliflower and buffalo sauce which allowed the spices to seep in and hook onto the florets. I was astounded by the capability of the air fryer and just how quick it managed to cook up the buffalo cauliflower. The final product was an entree that I would imagine getting in a high quality restaurant; it was just that good.
