During the colder months people tend to spend extreme amounts of money on presents. Whether they celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, people through the years have found ways to celebrate these holidays on a budget.

People typically spend $300 to $10 on gifts.

“I celebrate Christmas and I usually spend about $20-50 on gifts,” said freshman, Shanell Wooten.

“My parents celebrate Christmas and I join them. I usually spend around $10-20 on each gift,” said senior, Abigail Merritt.

Freshman, David Redden celebrates Christmas as well and spends $300 on gifts.

With people spending so much money during the holidays it’s easy to imagine that over the years people have found tips and tricks to cut back on their spending, and many people had similar ideas like Wooten and Redden.

“I save money during the holidays by waiting to buy gifts until the stores have a sale,” said Wooten.

“Go shopping during Black Friday, go to stores who aren’t as expensive,” said Redden.

However other people had more… unique ideas like senior, Jonny Pederson and senior, Matthew Richard.

When asked “how do you or people you know save money during the holidays?” Richard replied, “Using Nigerian Eskimos to fund an invasion of the North Pole to get needed goods, details are classified.”

“Don’t spend money at all,” said Pederson.

Also according to the website Moneycrashers.com another way to save money is to make a budget and track the amount of money you are spending. Another helpful tip they suggest is to cut back on extras and even look into the secret Santa method.

Turns out the holidays bring out the crazy in people. Luckily people did suggest some cheap stores to check out for good deals. Some examples being, H&M, Pink, Forever 21, 5 Below, Macy, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.

Hopefully, by reading other peoples tricks to save money you will be able to change the way you shop this year!
