Wavy eyebrows are joining fishnets with shorts, chokers, thrashers shirts, and male rompers, as a new trend of 2017. After the new makeup idea came about, the public had mixed emotions about makeup artists sporting the wavy eyebrow on social media.

Wavy eyebrows or “squiggly eyebrows” gained popularity on social media after makeup artist Promise Tamang uploaded a picture of herself on Aug. 21, sporting wavy eyebrows, wavy lips and wavy eyeliner. The photo has over 24,000 likes in just under a month after being uploaded, and the public doesn’t hide their feelings about Tamang’s makeup decision.

The wavy brows “trend” has reached so many people that it became a topic for a Fine Brothers Entertainment video on Youtube. The Youtube video featured people of different ages giving their opinions on the trend. While some didn’t like or understand the appeal of the wavy eyebrow, others connected with the creativity aspect. In the second half of the Youtube video, commentators were then asked to attempt the wavy eyebrow on themselves. Most found it challenging but humorous at the same time.

The wavy eyebrows trend has gained so much popularity, it has become a new Snapchat filter. Some A.I. students, like, senior, Niyah Padin have been seen sporting the wavy eyebrow filter on their Snapchat story.

When asked their opinions, a few members of the A.I. student body showed signs of distaste toward wavy eyebrows. Most of the students interviewed have negative opinions on the trend.

Some students, like senior Iyana Cain, “don’t care for it,” or just don’t like it.

Padin, someone who uploads makeup pictures on Instagram herself, thinks the new eyebrow phenomena is a result of  “ [this generation being] bored and [unable to] find anything better to do,” she said.

Other opinions gathered have a neutral feeling about them.

“Everyone says it’s stupid but will end up doing it,” said Jayla Lasseter, senior. Padin later commented, “The wavy thing is gonna catch on.”

Students even find the new trend funny. Senior, Jennifer Flores said, “The wavy lips look like a fish in water.”

As for the future, no one can expect what trends 2017 will finish with or what new wacky and creative ideas 2018 has for social media and fashion, but Shaony Torres, senior, summed it up when she said, “There’s always gonna be something new.”
